Online Dating Love Story
It was just before the war started that they started an online relationship. When war broke out, Elena was the first to tell John as they were communicating with each other on a daily basis. He quickly confirmed the news and they discussed what they were going to do. Elena, her 15-year-old-son and a friend made the decision to take refuge in Poland. They were in Poland for 2 weeks when they again discussed what should be the next move.
At the beginning of the war, not many countries were offering shelter to the victims of the war, the UK included. The nearest country to Scotland that opened their hearts was Ireland. So, Elena and her son traveled to Ireland. Mark and Elena kept up their daily chats all through this process. Mark then went over to Ireland to see Elena. He spent the day with Elena and her son. - Being Understanding: Western men need to remember that there may be a language barrier and that expectations may differ. Understanding is needed especially when Google Translate gets it wrong! Misunderstandings can occur because of this. Expectations also need to be discussed so both people know where the other one is coming from.
- Being Patient: This is especially true considering the circumstances that Ukrainian women find themselves in. Even in peacetime, Western men cannot expect their prospective partners to be available every hour of the day to talk to them. Many of the women have jobs/careers and can only communicate at certain times in the day. Now in war time, life has become very difficult. So, Ukrainian women need your patience. If they don’t answer your calls immediately, try to be understanding about the reason.
Mark and Elena’s Relationship
Mark and Elena feel that they are a good match. Elena likes the fact that Mark is a reliable man. She feels like she has a strong man with whom she can relax and be a woman with. She calls Mark ‘her rock’, strong and dependable. Mark respects that Elena has a relationship with Roman, her son. He feels like he is joining them and not the other way around. Mark has a nice relationship with Roman, probably helped by his experience of working with children and young people. In fact, Roman confided to his mom that he thinks Mark ‘is cool’. Mark had begun to learn Russian before he even met Elena. This sprung from an interest in the Cyrillic alphabet and after discovering he has distant Russian/Ukrainian relatives. Elena is primarily a Russian speaker, like about a third of Ukrainians. However, since the war, many of these Russian speaking Ukrainians are now steering clear of the Russian language. [3] Elena has also started to speak more Ukrainian as a result. So, Mark has now embarked upon learning Ukrainian as well.
Mark has quite a unique approach to language. He doesn’t see how he should expect her to learn English if he doesn’t also try to learn her language. This shows just how much the relationship means to Mark that he is putting in all this effort. Mark is also learning about Ukrainian culture to help understand his Elena better. He doesn’t want her to lose her Ukrainian culture and heritage, eating and enjoying the Ukrainian dishes that Elena cooks for him.
Mark’s Biggest Fear Searching for a Ukrainian Wife
Mark’s biggest and only fear when searching for a wife in Ukraine, was not getting scammed again. [4] He doesn’t see that as a problem anymore as he trusts Elena and Match Guaranty [1] completely. Fear can hold a lot of men back from finding their perfect partner. However, you can take the right precautions to help to negate any problems.
Match Guaranty coach, Luber was a great help. Mark has been in touch with her ever since he joined the site. Sometimes he just talks to her socially.
